Here at The Food Hub, we have stories in which we interviewed 2 head chefs and a story on TV in comparison to real life. We wanted another experience from someone that has worked in a kitchen but is not a chef, Today we have interviewed Lawrence Knowles, A university student with experience as a kitchen porter, we chose him because we think as our readers you would like to hear what a kitchen is like working in from someone who isn't in charge of the kitchen. This isn't us saying they are not important, every job in the kitchen is important, each worker has a role that is imperative to a kitchens success.

The job of a kitchen porter is to be trusted with a few roles, they are told to clean the dishes to keep a flowing kitchen, making sure all clean utensils, plates and pans are never an issue to retrieve. They are also sometimes asked to cut and prepare foods, whether this be vegetables, salads or any food on the menu that the Chef doesn't have time to prepare himself. The Kitchen porter doing these tasks ensures that there is a stress free environment, resulting in no arguments or fall outs during service time, an integral part of the kitchen team and respected in the workplace.

We wanted our readers to get this first hand experience from Lawrence, he tells us that Chefs are complicated, one minute they can be "shouting at everyone in the kitchen" due to the stress of getting dishes out in time, the next minute they could be having a laugh with you, cracking jokes and having a chat whilst we work. He tell us, and we love to hear this at The Food Hub, that it is both a character building environment whilst also being a place for learning and enjoying your time in the kitchen and workplace. This is what we adore to hear, we want our readers to see the enjoyment of the Culinary world. In this field and other fields and hobbies, we only get better with practice and failure it's all about putting yourself in situations that you aren't comfortable with, moulding the best version of yourself with outstanding qualities.
